The Great Battleground

Being a Christian does not exempt us from having to fight daily with the problem of sin in our lives. We know that being saved does not mean we are perfect. We know that we all have personal deficits that we must persistently work toward controlling; temper, impatience, unkind thoughts, self centeredness, and a host of other possibilities. We know that we all have some skeletons and they do not always stay hidden in the closet.

When Bad Things Happen to Good People

Why do bad things happen to good people? Surely this is a question all of us ask from time to time. Some of Jesus? listeners asked Him the same question. (Luke 13: 1-9). They brought up the recent news about some Galileans who had been cruelly offered as human sacrifices by Pilate; and about the tower that had fallen in one of the cities in which 18 innocent bystanders had been killed; and they wanted to know if these people?s tragic deaths were due to their sins.

Celtic Mythology: 7 Ways to a Wonderful Life

In Corrogue, Celtic mythology helps me live a wonderful life.

The Power of Myth to Transform Your Life

Irish myth has the power to transform your life into a real life of creativity and love. There are many powerful symbols that you might embrace in order to create a real sense of belonging in the world. Let me share some of these symbols that can assist in your truly connecting to the homeplace of the heart.

The Power of Love

?There must be a higher love/Without it life is wasted time.? Those are the opening words to one of my favorite Steve Winwood songs. What could a higher love mean in your life ? in the life of your clients?

The Divine Self

Many look outside of themselves for an experience of the Divine. Many turn to religions. Others invoke "inner guides" or a "higher self". I would like to propose that the Divine is not only inside you, it is You!

True Justice and Freedom

The world?s idea of justice and freedom fall short of their purpose. Prison bars keep the guilty from repeating their crime while behind them. They cannot change the person. Freedom comes with a price. We have to take responsibility for our actions. We are never free from the tensions of living on the earth. We must pay the price of making a living and existing among people of different temperaments and cultures. Being in Christ is the perfect answer because he has already paid the price for our sins.

Do Not Believe In God

God poetry is one of my favorite genres, although I have to confess to being an atheist. Why does an atheist write about God? Because the idea of God is an important one. And the experience of "God" can be life changing - more so than mere belief. That is the point of this first poem.

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

That we must live with imperfections is a fact of life that cannot be denied. We must come to terms with the silent and perennial truth that the field of human life will always consist of the good, the bad and the ugly coexisting together.

Show Of Hands

The human body is surely a miracle of God?s creation. Each member has its unique function with none quite as active as the hands. Everything man has ever made or ever will make is made by hands.

Dark Cages

Acknowledgement of our need of God and reliance upon Him will not always rid us of life?s pressures, will not always remove from us the difficult situations, the dark cage within which we sometimes find ourselves trapped. We shall not always escape the pressures of life and the dark situations which they bring. But we can, with God, withstand them and find resources for enduring them even when they, for the time being, do not let up.

Payday Someday

Let us face reality squarely in the face by acknowledging the tragic fact that it does not matter how ?good? you may be, folks can always concoct a way to destroy you. If people want to tear down your good name, they will find a way to somehow achieve it. If jealous, envious, greedy individuals want something you have, they will do anything and use any willing body to get you out of the way.

Christian Religious Addiction in Hawaii?

Surveys show that religion and spirituality play a central role in the lives of most of the population in human experience. Gallup (1989) found that 53% of the U.S. population considers religion to be very important in their life, and another 31% considered it fairly important (p. 176). The religious and spiritual dimensions of culture were found to be among the most important factors that structure human experience, beliefs, values, behavior, and illness (Browning et al., 1990; James, 1961; Krippner and Welch, 1992).
