Make A Difference - Just Go Make A Difference!
Three Words That Can Help Us Live Exceptional Lives Certain words and word combinations carry with them varying levels of meaning for each of us. For instance, you may sense any number of reactions to one or more of these statements: "Strike three." "Speeding ticket." "It's a girl!" "Filing system." (For me, these words qualify as an oxymoron!) Words articulate legislative action, cast vision, begin and end territorial disputes, express our final wishes, create pleasure and cause pain. Words -- and combinations of words -- can change lives. Take these three for instance: Observe. Think of these words as representing a three-fold skill set to assist us in cultivating the style of life we yearn to live... A growing, maturing, meaningful style of living that generates enthusiasm and challenges us to keep moving in the right direction. One simple, but not simplistic, pattern for continuing our own self development plan will most likely include: 1. Developing the art of meaningful *observation.* With the themes of observation, learning, and sharing forming the backdrop for your thoughts, take a mental review of the following seven vital areas for the purpose of capturing the prominent lessons of your life: *Work Now set your heart on helping yourself or someone else continue the journey of living a life of excellence by: 1. Applying one of your life lessons to your current set of circumstances. 2. Sharing your lesson with one or more individuals. Take Sherry, my wife, as an example. In twenty minutes I will watch a group of young adults from a small college in the Northeastern section of the United States prepare to share the joy of reading with several classes of elementary age children in the Bronx. Tomorrow this small band of "Let's make a difference!" people will arrive in New York, unpack their paraphernalia, get dressed in fun costumes, and creatively "read" stories from a variety of children's books to a gathering of school kids. How did this happen anyway? My wife looked at her life, took stock of what she learned (not only concerning how to teach reading but the joy of being a positive influence in the world), set up a training exercise for sharing her life lessons with future teachers, and designed a trip to the Bronx. In short, Sherry applied her heart to what she learned from life. Honestly I can't think of one person I admire... A friend, Who did not experience this simple process in one form or another as he or she strived to excel in the art of living. You possess a great deal of potential, my friend. Observe. My Passion, My Life Every morning I excitedly get out of bed. Just a few minutes of goals and visions for the day swirl in my head. No lingering for me, no alarm, no wishful notes too. Just me in my night gown with no hat. Blessings and Art of Living My perception is that universe infinitely blesses us every moment. Why we do not acknowledge is that we are not consciously aware of it. For example you start in the morning to the office, the breeze that touches your body; the surrounding climate, the ambience of office etc are all the ways that universe conspires to bless. What we need on our part is to simply be conscious of it and the doors for infinite blessing of the universe opens. Simple things have enormous capacity to bless us, heal us but we not open to the vast in and around us and get caught in our own hypnotized worlds. What opens the blessings is awareness. Hold loose of yourself from your self created reality and simply be aware of every little thing that you come across. Universal Thought System Language Keywords Before we are able to use the Universal Thought System in a positive expansive manner, we must learn to use certain words in our language more effectively. The prime characteristic of the Universal Thought System is its consistency. It may not be used to manipulate. It may not be used to gain an advantage. It treats everyone equally. It eliminates the negative side of opposites. Why is this Universal Language so critical to our progress? In our thoughts and actions, we either seek idols or we seek truth. When we find the truth all our answers are provided. Truth contains all answers to every problem. Truth has always existed and will always exist. Our beliefs and feelings color our truth. They act as filters between our truth and our illusions. Inside Secrets On How To Stay Afloat During Tough Times Do you find yourself asking questions when tough times come like, 'Why has this come my way?' or 'What did I do to deserve it?' It has sometimes crossed my mind, 'Why me?' when I'm faced with what seemed like an insurmountable problem. Struggling With Addictions What kind of bad habits do you struggle with? Most people think that when they come to Christ that their bad habits will magically disappear. And some church people act like if you have any bad habits in your life that you must not truly be saved, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Christians or not, we are all people, and people make mistakes. People have bad habits. Built in Judge In this world we don't have to afraid to anybody except to only one. Who is it? Where is it? Death Wish I tremble at the thought that millions of people suffer enough to entertain a death wish. Perhaps it is as common a component of the psyche as suffering is a widespread phenomenon among humans. I suppose it is normally counterbalanced by the appetite for life, which joy and hope can whet, but is it ever overturned? Probably not, at least not for long, and that worries me. Could numerous instances of big-risk-taking be death-wish-related? Overeating, smoking, speeding, every human deed that is potentially lethal, including war, may be symptomatic of a death wish, all the more pernicious as it is usually denied or concealed behind other motives. Confidence Building Steps That Work Like Crazy! Self-confidence is your assessment of your own self-worth. It plays a large part in determining your happiness through life. So how do you create confidence? Well here's a surprise - you take action! If you don't currently have much self-confidence, let's explore the options on how to cultivate this trait within your life. How to Guarantee a GREAT Day Every Day! I have a standing interview every Monday morning on a radio station in the southeast that I enjoy very much. You can imagine though that it can become routine. So to make it a little more fun, the host nowadays doesn't even tell me the topic before we go live on the air - that puts some excitement into it! False Start Direct Answers - Column for the week of July 7, 2003. Quotable Quotes Are Nothing More Than Flowery Words Quotable quotes are nothing more than flowery words... And anyone given enough time and cognitive power anyone can put one together. Yes, they may strike a chord or make you feel good, but their true value resides in what they encourage and excite you to put into action. Ideas not followed by action have very little power. Here is one for you: "Only that which is eternal has any true value." Now you think about that quote and in some circles it might be considered pretty quotable. So does this mean that if this online message lasts for eternity that it has true value? Actually the author is attempting to convey something more profound (I happen to know him pretty well). The only thing which is eternal (quotable or non-quotable) is that which lies within you -- your spiritual core. This is your true identity and therefore anything that cannot stand the test of infinity is but a passing fancy. What does this have to do with quotable quotes? Well a lot..hang with me. If you are focusing on the infinite then you must take the action necessary to strengthen and escalate the Power of the Infinite within yourself. The next logical question may be, "Well how do increase this power within?" All great teachers, sages and saints since time immemorial have told us in one-way-shape-or-fashion that the power to win in your life comes quite simply from two things. You must constantly: Study, understand, and immerse yourself in that which brings you power. Avoid all that weakens you. Unfortunately, you live in a world that will inundate you with that which weakens. Increasing your Infinite Self then becomes a matter of critical action; and here is where we tie this conversation into quotable quotes. The fact that you are alive in this century guarantees that you are highly exposed to negative input from the media, friends, school systems, family members and various other energy vampires. Now while you may not find all of above factors as negative in your life, we can be pretty well assured that unless you avoid television, newspapers and magazines all together (something you might strongly consider), you have at minimum some negative energy to contend with. If you are barraged by negative media input on a daily basis you must actively seek input to the contrary just to stay at equilibrium.. much less get ahead of the energy game. Enter quotable quotes. The infamous quotable quotes could indeed be a part of your action plan to offset negative input from other sources. Ultimately you will become that which you think about all day long, for thoughts breed action and actions breed results. Read the quotes as well as other pieces of inspiration and power; and then most importantly...act boldly in accordance with this line of thinking and pull yourself from the quagmire of collective limitation. You were born into greatness but have been conditioned into mediocrity -- and you can quote me on that one. Melting Snow I love the sounds of melting snow-plink, plink, ting, ting, ting, a staccato drip on sloped metal roofs, the occasional loud crack of a giant icicle, the bubble and gurgle of the mountain brook as it swells and tumbles over polished rocks on its way to the valley below. Tomorrow May be Too Late A high school senior, looking forward to going to college, inspiring to become a doctor kisses her parents and dashes out the door to go to school, smiling, and waving goodbye -- never realizing that before day's end, she would meet the fate of a deadly bullet. Life is About Choosing Back to our youth days, we were taught that by being discipline and studying hard we would get good grades and would surely pass the school without failure. Therefore, as a kid we tried our best to work well in studying instead of keep playing out with neighbor kids. The Power of One It was one of those once-in-a-life-time moments. The entire World celebrated Christmas Eve, 1968, by sitting glued to television sets. Apollo 8 was in Moon orbit, broadcasting first-ever, live television shots of the Moon's surface. Man had yet to set foot on the Moon, so this Moon orbit was truly an historic moment. When Was the Last Time? When was the last time you smiled at a stranger? I Am? ?you are, he is, she is, they are? But you knew that already, didn't you? Or have you really stopped to think about it recently ? or ever for that matter? Overcoming Fear of Terrorism This week I did a radical thing. I bought a newspaper. Arranging Stepping-Stones The greatest achievements were obtained by those who took one step after the next. They resolved to succeed, and moved little by little toward a worthwhile goal. My Mothers Garden I love to talk about Purposeful Living with others and share how it's affected my life. But sometimes when I get to the part about doing what you need to do my listeners eyes glaze over and I know I've lost them. I get the response that it doesn't seem like much "fun" to find your purpose and do what you need to do. In fact, it sounds rather Calvinistic. It sounds like trudging uphill in the rain with your head down ? oblivious to your surroundings. |
