Travelers Logon for Advice Before Booking TravelLeasa Hachey Guidebooks and travel magazines are helpful when trying to choose hotels, excursions, or a destination for your next vacation. Travel agents are even better. But what could be less biased and more helpful than no-holds-barred, word-of-mouth comments and comparisons of trips made by other travelers just like you. This is the idea behind MyTripReport.com, a web site devoted to consumer reviews – called “trip reports” – that provides these honest assessments for destinations all over the globe, sometimes with dozens of reviews for a single hotel or destination. At MyTripReport.com members post their trip reports in three easy steps, and can even include photos of their trip within their report. The site is simple, uncluttered and very easy to navigate. Members can then send their family a link to their report and share their vacation and photos easily with their loved ones, friends, and even with strangers on message boards and within newsgroups. And trip reports are just as easy to locate; searching can be done by destination, resort, vacation theme, cruise ship, or by member name. MyTripReport.com also includes a photo gallery of many destinations, including photos of many Caribbean resorts. A number of travel tools are also available on the site, including Government travel advisories, currency converters, airline seating maps, plus many more. Word-of-mouth is such an invaluable tool available to us, it’s nice not to be totally dependant on squeaky-clean hotel websites and travel brochures.

Going it Alone: The Waterfall at Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska I stood at the observation point on the balcony at the Visitor Center overlooking the great Mendenhall Glacier at Juneau, Alaska. Before me was a beautiful scene. The glacier reflected in the large lake. Ooh, ahh. Both to the left and right were mountains. It was a beautiful clear day. I watched the people too, walking around taking photos, and looking at the scenery before us and at the displays in the center, just a few feet away. Treasure in the Andes I awoke to strange surroundings, my first view of the plaster-peeling room in which I had spent the night being afforded by the early-morning sunrise on the Bolivian Altiplano. After arriving near midnight in the frigid darkness of the high desert, my thoughts had been only of how quickly I could unpack my sleeping bag and crawl in.Now as I peered out of the window, it became apparent that I was in a quadrille, the famous architectural style of squares-within-a-square that is a hallmark of the former Spanish Colonial Empire from California to South America. My "room" consisted of a small shack, which with a series of other small, straw-thatched, adobe huts, defined the walls around a central courtyard paved with flagstones. There was no heat source, and thus my morning dressing routine required only that I emerge from my sleeping bag, it having been too cold to consider removing my several layers of clothing the previous night. All Inclusive Resort Bulletin Boards For those considering an all inclusive resort vacation the need for information, pictures and trip reports is urgent. All inclusive resort vacations typically run $4000-$7000 for a weeks stay at an all inclusive resort. Because of the higher upfront cost travelers needing information would prefer to get it from people who have been to the resorts vs. the resort themselves. Resort websites and brochures usually contain staged photos which have been airbrushed to perfection. Maps are not always to scale and the facts about features and quality of the resort are usually subjective. Below are links and descriptions for bulletin boards that discuss all inclusive resorts. The members are always willing to answer questions and provide pictures and information. Las Vegas Centennial Party Las Vegas turns 100 this year, on May 15th.
